Who we are

Powering East Africa's Cities with Clean Energy

After years of research and dedication to the industry, Beled Energy was launched in 2022 by a Nairobi-based team driven by a passion to transform East Africa’s challenges to energy access and clean power production.

We are on a mission to provide a new perspective on renewable energy solutions to East African countries.

At Beled Energy, the work we do is driven by the passion to transform Kenya’s rural electrification challenges and Somalia’s countrywide electrification challenges. Our commitment is greater than providing adequate access to electricity to Kenya and Somalia – the commitment is continued sustainability for generations by working with communities to improve infrastructural deficits such including of access to roads, water and social services.

We aim to reduce East Africa’s dependency on the usage of fossil fuel for energy. We offer innovative energy solutions to ensure sufficient clean power to Kenya and Somalia’s energy supply.

Background and Path Forward

Our aim is to develop renewable energy projects to improve the rural electrification challenges in Kenya by providing electricity services to underserved and remote counties. 14 out of 47 counties in Kenya have a 23% rate of connectivity to electricity compared to the national average of 71.44%. In Kenya, our mandate is to provide electricity generation to marginalized counties.

As Somalia is faced with energy scarcity, the country currently depends on generator use for electricity which adds to the CO2 emissions. The city of Mogadishu is set to undergo a major social and economic transformation over the upcoming century as its population grows, the city urbanizes and consumer purchasing habits change. While there are efforts to increase energy access in Somalia, population growth outpaces these efforts.

This is expected to lead to exponential growth in energy generation, which will put considerable strain on existing burdened infrastructure and further exacerbate the current state of access to energy.

Our goal is to provide a solution that will accelerate Somalia’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Our efforts will also aid in the country’s fight against environmentally destructive greenhouse gas emissions.
